SUPPORTING TRAILS

We are passionate about supporting the trails, parks, and wilderness areas that inspire us and provide opportunities for backcountry adventure.

In particular, we are passionate about supporting parks and trails here in our backyard of the Canadian Rockies - one of the wildest and most beautiful places in the world. We do that through both volunteering and donations to the non-profit organizations that are making a difference in the hiking community.

Volunteering

The Great Divide Trail (GDT) is Canada's preeminent wilderness trail and a natural extension of the Continental Divide Trail across the USA.

After Dan and T hiked the first yo-yo of the GDT (2300 km) in 2017, we have been passionate supporters of the trail. This includes Dan Durston leading volunteer trail building and maintenance trips on the GDT every summer through the Great Divide Trail Association. To date, Dan has spent over 100 days volunteering on the GDT including leading the restoration, building, and maintenance of over 200 km of trail.

In particular, Dan has led the Collie Creek restoration project for a 14 km stretch of historic indigenous trail near Banff National Park involving over 1000 volunteer hours to restore the trail and reestablish bridges and a new cable car river crossing. This work has been done in partnership with the Secwépemc First Nation, Columbia Basin Trust, Recreation Sites and Trails BC, and Great Divide Trail Association.

Donations

Great Divide Trail Association

Durston is proud to be a top financial supporter of the Great Divide Trail Association with substantial yearly donations to their trail building, protection, and advocacy work for the Great Divide Trail. These funds support ongoing efforts to maintain, built, and protect this world class 1100 km trail.

Canadian Backcountry Trails Preservation Society

Durston is also proud to be a major supporter of the Canadian Backcountry Trails Preservation Society.

The work of CBTPS involves direct efforts to restore and maintain historic trails in the Canadian Rockies, as well as advocacy work to bring awareness and funding to neglected trails within the Canadian Rockies National Parks of Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho.
