Groundsheet

Sale price$44.00 USD

Tent Model: X-Mid 1

Groundsheets that are sold out will be re-stocked in late July (X-Dome 2).

Our factory built groundsheets offer greater protection and a cleaner floor for your Durston tent. Our floors are designed to last a long lifespan when used with care on regular surfaces, but a groundsheet is recommended for camping on harsher surfaces (e.g. rock, gravel), to provide a greater level of protection against unforeseen objects, for people that don't want to check their campsites for sharp objects, and to keep your tent cleaner.

QUALITY

While many companies are content to sell you a piece of tyvek or a simple bit of fabric, we think groundsheets should be built to the same high quality standards as the tent you are using it with.

Our groundsheets are built using top of the line custom materials and construction methods. Unlike perhaps any other company, our groundsheets are fully double stitched, use double folded edges (to hide the raw fabric edges), have generous bartacking, and reinforce all of the connection points.

Unnecessary perhaps, but for a negligible weight difference we can make a groundsheet to be proud of.

USAGE & COMPATIBILITY

Our groundsheets are the same shape as the floor (they do not cover the vestibule). To use the groundsheet, position it logo side up and slide it under the floor and clip it to the four floor corners. The ground sheet can be left attached to the tent or removed if you wish. We suggest normally leaving it attached but removing it when drying the tent.

Groundsheet = paraglider! Amazing!!!

Hey,
Unfortunately I still haven't used the groundsheet for its purpose. I hit the trail but I had a little accident. Since I was enthusiastic enough to camp at high altitudes I had the chance to test the groundsheet and the tent in windy conditions but fortune had other plans for me. Unfortunately I slipped and fell of a cliff and I would've been dead now if it wasn't the groundsheet I bought from you guys. Somehow in the process of falling I tried to grab for anything I could grab in order to avoid the fatal incident. Thankfully I ended up falling with the groundsheet in my hand. What happened next saved my life or at least both my legs. I spread the groundsheet as a paraglider above my head and it turns out it did an amazing job as I flew over a few hundreds of meters and landed successfully. I have only a few bruises but the groundsheet a.k.a paraglider was indeed the key to my survival. I can't thank you enough for thinking about this as well. Having in mind that the groundsheet could be used as paraglider is probably the best designer 8dea behind this amazing groundsheet. Will let you know how it performs as a groundsheet the next time I hot the trail. Thank you once again for your amazing product and for practically saving my life. Just one advise - you can easaly rebrand the product as 2 in 1 (Groundsheet + Paraglider). Don't be shy and point out all the features and uses your amazing product can have.
Cheers!

Regards,
Alexandrus

Amazing! Glad you had a good flight :)

I see you have the 2P size, which is our best gliding model. It is nice to know it worked well in the Bulgarian alps and you were able to have a safe landing with only a few bruises. We aren't currently advertising these as multi-use paraglider/groundsheets because of liability reason and the need to implement more of a steering system, but it is good to have it field tested and we will see what further advances lie ahead.

Yours in flight,
Dan

X-Dome 1+: spacious, truly free standing, but not as light as advertised

Yesterday I got my X-Dome 1+ (mesh inner, regular poles, 2 Z-Flick tent poles). Due to rainy wheather, I pitched it for a test in my sitting room (I had to empty out my sitting room lol).

I like the space the tent provides, especially the height which due to my age of 67 years is crucial for my comfort. My Radical Design bicycle trailer fits into the apsis and I do have enough space inside, e.g. for my CPAP machine plus a real fat battery to run it. Also it is truly free standing and even without stakes the fly is tight - as opposed to my Tarptent Momentum DW which I find difficult to get a tight fly even with the cross bar and additional stakes (besides that the DW's height is by about 9cm/3.5in lower than the 1+).

But because there is no description how pitch, it wasn't as easy as advertised: it took me about 15 minutes. But it will be faster in the future after having pitched it more often. But how to take the tent down and how to fold it is imho also important. I wish I had an advice on that too. Also, I still don't understand why there are two different sizes of stakes and where to place them.

Further more the advertised weights aren't correct: the tent, just as it comes, is 1096g, not 990g. If I omit the 8 stakes, then it is 1002g. Only if I also omit the pack sack for the rod the weight of 992g drops close to the advertised 990g.
But I do not want to push the rod into the tent bag without the rod being in its bag because I do not want to tear the fly or the inner. Further more, when throu hikes or very long bicycle tours, one must bring the stakes in case of gusty winds. Then the tent's weight is 1096g.

I bought the tent for a bicycle tour through Australia in April to June 2026. I want to be prepared for nights when I am far away from any civilization. Therefore, I also got 2 Z-Flick tent poles for stability in stormy conditions. Those poles are 92g plus 10g for the stoppers that are enclosed: 102g instead of advertised 88g, which rises the total weight to 1300g. Plus a ground sheet that covers not only the inner but the apsis too and a few additional ropes and stakes then we are beyond 1500g.

To clarify: with the weights not given correctly, I am a bit disappointed. But this is the lightest, best and most comfortable free standing tent I ever had: no complaints about the tent. I will get the solid too as soon as it is available separately.

Glad you're liking the tent. For pitching, we do have a page with written instructions and a video here:
https://durstongear.com/pages/x-dome-pitching

On soft soils, it is best to use the larger stakes at the corners when they hold better and then the smaller stakes can be used elsewhere at less important stake points. On firm soils, either stake will be fine.

For the weight, the 980g advertised weight it just for the tent itself (not including stakes, groundsheets, stuff sacks etc). Of course many people will carry those things, but it varies (e.g. you'd rarely need all 8 stakes) so we list the weight for just the tent (980g) and then down in the 'specifications' table you can see the weights listed for every part including the stuff sacks, stakes etc so people can add it up for their preferred setup. So if your tent is 990g with just the tent and tent sack, then it would meet or be lighter than the 980g spec for just the tent, but certainly adding other things will increase the weight.

For the poles, that 88g weight is also referring to just the pole itself. The rubber stoppers are an extra that for a long time was not included, but recently we started adding that, so they are heavier if you count that rubber stopped, which is a good idea to use at the peaks of the X-Dome to spread out the force. The tent will do fine in winds to 30-40 km/hr without any extra supports, but if you are taking it windier than that, then yes these poles are a good idea.

Glad you are overall liking the tent.

Groundsheet Goodness & Beyond.......

Just back from the Yosemite Backcountry and I got to try out all my Durston gear, including the groundsheet for my X-Mid1, clips on perfectly and is out of sight and mind, protecting the tent. I also have the Kakwa 55 and Iceline poles, I gave them all their first test and no complaints other than I'm getting up there in age and still 30 lbs of gear (water) on my back still is painful. The poles got worked hard, there's a lot of granite and the poles sometimes got jabbed into crevices and torqued on quite a bit, but no issues, really surprised actually how strong they are given how light. Thanks Dan for cool products that perform and that are a great value!

Ground sheet

Works as expected! I love that it clips to the base of the tent so I don’t need to remove it!

Great for protecting the underside of your tent, plus provides added puncture protection to your sleep mat.
