Tent Model: X-Mid 1

X-Mid Groundsheets that are sold out will be re-stocked in mid-May.

Our factory built groundsheets offer greater protection and a cleaner floor for your Durston tent. Our floors are designed to last a long lifespan when used with care on regular surfaces, but a groundsheet is recommended for camping on harsher surfaces (e.g. rock, gravel), to provide a greater level of protection against unforeseen objects, for people that don't want to check their campsites for sharp objects, and to keep your tent cleaner.

QUALITY

While many companies are content to sell you a piece of tyvek or a simple bit of fabric, we think groundsheets should be built to the same high quality standards as the tent you are using it with.

Our groundsheets are built using top of the line custom materials and construction methods. Unlike perhaps any other company, our groundsheets are fully double stitched, use double folded edges (to hide the raw fabric edges), have generous bartacking, and reinforce all of the connection points.

Unnecessary perhaps, but for a negligible weight difference we can make a groundsheet to be proud of.

USAGE & COMPATIBILITY

Our groundsheets are the same shape as the floor (they do not cover the vestibule). To use the groundsheet, position it logo side up and slide it under the floor and clip it to the four floor corners. The ground sheet can be left attached to the tent or removed if you wish. We suggest normally leaving it attached but removing it when drying the tent.

Groundsheet = paraglider! Amazing!!!

Hey,
Unfortunately I still haven't used the groundsheet for its purpose. I hit the trail but I had a little accident. Since I was enthusiastic enough to camp at high altitudes I had the chance to test the groundsheet and the tent in windy conditions but fortune had other plans for me. Unfortunately I slipped and fell of a cliff and I would've been dead now if it wasn't the groundsheet I bought from you guys. Somehow in the process of falling I tried to grab for anything I could grab in order to avoid the fatal incident. Thankfully I ended up falling with the groundsheet in my hand. What happened next saved my life or at least both my legs. I spread the groundsheet as a paraglider above my head and it turns out it did an amazing job as I flew over a few hundreds of meters and landed successfully. I have only a few bruises but the groundsheet a.k.a paraglider was indeed the key to my survival. I can't thank you enough for thinking about this as well. Having in mind that the groundsheet could be used as paraglider is probably the best designer 8dea behind this amazing groundsheet. Will let you know how it performs as a groundsheet the next time I hot the trail. Thank you once again for your amazing product and for practically saving my life. Just one advise - you can easaly rebrand the product as 2 in 1 (Groundsheet + Paraglider). Don't be shy and point out all the features and uses your amazing product can have.
Cheers!

Regards,
Alexandrus

Amazing! Glad you had a good flight :)

I see you have the 2P size, which is our best gliding model. It is nice to know it worked well in the Bulgarian alps and you were able to have a safe landing with only a few bruises. We aren't currently advertising these as multi-use paraglider/groundsheets because of liability reason and the need to implement more of a steering system, but it is good to have it field tested and we will see what further advances lie ahead.

Yours in flight,
Dan

Groundsheet quality good but difficult to keep under inner when pitching

Comments below for constructive feedback purposes and not to grip. Groundsheet quality is great but not enough inner/groundsheet attachment points so I have to crawl around under the fly to pull and align the sheet under the inner floor its supposed to be protecting (real PITA) every time I pitch the tent. Maybe consider providing some fabric loops on the inner and groundsheet (at midway points) that could be joined together when leaving attached? Hilleberg’s Enan (for example) have a few of these fabric elastic loops with little plastic “T” toggles to join their groundsheet/fly which keeps everything together nicely. I like my X-Mid 1 (gen3) and would like to use the Durston groundsheet but may have to DIY my own Tyvek sheet if Dutchware doesn’t have some adhesive loops I can add my Durston groundsheet.

Thanks for the feedback on the groundsheet and glad like you like the quality.

It is true that it only connects at the 4 corners. Usually we see people leaving it connected to the inner, but yes even then it wouldn't stay as nicely connected as if it had more connection points. We are trying to be weight efficient here, so extra T toggles like Hilleberg would be nice but also add some weight and complexity to it, that we try to avoid. One of the challenges with adding more connections is that we'd need to add them to both the groundsheet and the tent floor, so there is extra connections on the floor with more seam tape etc. Not a big deal but it adds a bit of weight. So I do prefer to keep it simpler with just the 4 corner connections that take advantage of existing spots to connect, but I do agree that there would also be benefit in having more.

Thanks for taking the time to share your suggestions. We appreciate it and keep it in mind,
Dan

I like that its custom sized to fit the X-Dome 1+ tent; also of the level of quality for which Durston is known.
