For the gear geeks who want the best, our Reflective Ironwire is the most durable and lowest stretch reflective guyline available, making it the highest performance guyline for your tent.
This line has a pure Dyneema® core which gives a breaking strength of 650 lbs – remarkable for a 2.0 mm line. While other Dyneema® core lines exist, ours goes a step further and also weaves Dyneema® into the sheath for unparalleled abrasion resistance. A pure Dyneema® sheath is too slick to hold knots well and wouldn’t melt nicely to finish the ends, so our sheath uses a blend of Dyneema® and polyester for the ideal balance between durability and feel.
The Dyneema® and tight weave also make this line ultra low stretch, which reduces deflection in stormy conditions. Regular lines commonly stretch about 10% which allows your tent to deflect under high winds and snow loads. This line only has about 1% stretch, which largely eliminates that for a more resolute shelter in harsh weather. We recommend this line as upgrade when camping where high winds or snow loads are a factor.
Reflective Ironwire line is built in the USA by Lawson Equipment. It is equivalent to their Ironwire cord, except we have added a 3M Scotchlite Reflective reflective tracer for night time visibility – key for a tent application.
We offer this line in 2.0 mm size, which works well with all versions of our X-Mid tents and numerous other shelters. Please note that the tight weave and low stretch materials means that this cord does not stretch thinner under load like most cords, so it performs well in cord tensioners that usually require 2.5 mm.

Q) How do you melt the ends?
A) The sheath will melt nicely to seal the cord ends. To do so, start a foot back from the cut end and squeeze your fingers along the sheath towards the end. This will work the end of the sheath past the core by 1/8″ (2-3 mm). You can then melt the sheath to seal the end.
Q) What cord tensioners does this work with?
A) The low stretch and high density of this cord means that it doesn’t stretch thinner under load like most cords. A typical 2.5 mm cord will stretch thinner to about 2.0 mm under load while our cord does not, so this 2.0 mm cord acts similar to most 2.5 mm cord in cord tensioners. Thus, it works well in almost all popular cord tensioners like LineLoc3’s and LineLoc Lite’s that we use or have used on the X-Mid and are popular on numerous other tents. If your tent works well with 2.0 – 2.5 mm line you will find this cord to be the right thickness.
